Give your child the gifts of:

Confidence * Discipline * Fitness

Dear Parent,

My father started me in martial arts classes at the age of six.  He started taking lessons when he was a teenager.  His teacher was Grand Master James B.C. Yu, who has been teaching in Ann Arbor for over 40 years.  My name is Andy DeJesus, I am the owner of B.C. Yu Martial Arts Center and it is my goal to continue Grand Master Yu’s work.

As a child I regularly wanted to quit taking lessons.  My father would not allow it.  He knew that martial arts training would make a big difference in my life.  Now I am very grateful for his persistence because it has been a tremendous influence in my life.  I have experienced first hand how it builds character and confidence in children.  Now as a teacher this experience has also given me a great perspective on how to work with children.  It has improved my ability to relate to them, motivate them, empathize with them, and help them through the tough spots where most students quit.

Our goal is to help the aggressive child and the timid child to meet in the middle, at the healthy assertive level.  I meet children who have a low self esteem, a lack of discipline and the inability to control their body.  In 3 months, as I tie on a yellow belt that they have earned, I see the same child with a proud smile of achievement, a new attitude of respect, and improved mental and physical control.

This is important and exciting work. It is gratifying to help parents raise children who exhibit the five tenets of Tae Kwon Do: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.  We help children stand up for themselves and we help parents who are interested in producing healthy human beings.  At our school the martial arts is much more than just punches and kicks.  Join us--and give your child the gifts of confidence, discipline, and fitness.

Best wishes,
Master Andy DeJesus

Megan has developed a positive attitude toward her martial arts training.  Unlike some of her past activities, she is eager and happy to attend tae kwon do.  I have also noticed that she is more obedient and seems to have become a better listener.  I think it empowers her and gives her confidence.  Tae Kwon Do has taught Megan the virtues of commitment and perseverance.  She has learned that hard work leads to achievement.

Conway

Learning martial arts has helped our son to set goals and to participate in a group activity while listening and following directions.  He also has many positive role models around including the instructors and the older children with more advanced belts and skills whom he enjoys watching.  David continues to become stronger and more coordinated.

Merz

Carly’s martial art training has benefited her in several ways.  It has helped her to be more confident in her abilities in general and in her ability to perform in front of a group.  She has learned to set long term goals for herself.  She has learned to be patient and the power of perseverance.  She is learning that hard work pays off.  She enjoys and looks forward to her training.

Paulauskis

It has given him great focus and discipline.  Greg has developed a sense of commitment to his study of martial arts.  It has taught him he can attain goals he sets for himself.  Greg has worked for 3 years to complete his black belt test.  This is an accomplishment and goal achieved by hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

Frank has increasingly shown more responsibility for his actions and in keeping up with his school work.  Martial arts continue to give Frank focus and shown him that perseverance, integrity, etc. will lead to success.
